room to grow
I’ve had this website for over a year now, so I think it’s time to introduce myself. Hi, my name is Micaela and I’m a wanna-be illustrator from Italy, specifically from Ferrara, which is a small-ish town in the north of Italy. I say wanna-be illustrator because, as of right now, I have yet to actually publish something (I did, technically illustrate a children’s book, but it’s a local one and maybe I’ll tell you more about it in another post). I opened this website last year, in preparation for the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, which, if you don’t know what that is, you should look up. The past year and a half has been big for me: I’ve taken part in local projects, illustrated two fake music cassettes, tried multiple contests, and even landed myself a spot in the finalists in one of those. Basically, I’ve started trying to actually be an illustrator, instead of just dreaming of being one. And for me, that looks like being involved in my local artists communities, taking any chance I can and just working my butt off. Truly, it’s been a great year and a half, but it was really tiring: trying to juggle a full-time job, university and trying to jumpstart a career as an illustrator is no small feat. But I’m managing it, and I feel like I’m actually doing pretty good, all things considered.
I’ve decided to open this blog space for announcements, such as publications (let’s all hope!), big projects and more. I’m not as good as I should be on Instagram, and I won't post that much here either, but I wanted a space made for telling people the good stuff. So this is it.
Thank you for following along in this journey, and I hope you enjoy your stay! There’s room to grow, and like a little seedling, I intend to take it all. Bye!
